Both dates are turned into exact calendar days (UTC, so daylight saving never shifts the answer) and subtracted. Weekdays skip Saturdays and Sundays. If the end date is earlier, the dates are swapped.
Pick a start and end date. The tool counts the whole days from one to the other, so Jan 1 to Jan 31 is 30 days. Turn on include end date to count both days, which gives 31.
Yes. Dates are converted to exact calendar days, so 29 February is counted in leap years such as 2024 and 2028.
Weekdays are Monday to Friday between the two dates. Public holidays are not removed because they differ by country and region.
Whole calendar months are counted first, then the remaining days. When the start day does not exist in a month (such as the 31st), it is moved to that month's last day.
